America's Promise Job Driven Grant

The Region 4 Workforce Board received nearly $6 million, from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) for advanced manufacturing training and work-based learning activities for those who have experienced a period of unemployment or underemployment. The grant - the only one awarded in Indiana - will serve 1,124 workers over the four-year period from Jan. 11, 2017, through Dec. 31, 2020. The H-1B America’s Promise Job Driven grant provides participants with career coaching, certifications in advanced manufacturing skills, internships, on-the-job training, and job placement. The grant also includes funding to support industrial maintenance or organizational leadership and supervision incumbent worker and apprenticeship trainings.

The grant is a collaborative effort, with employer partners SIA, Caterpillar, Heartland Automotive, Wabash National, Haynes International, Inc., GE Aviation, Voestalpine Rotec and Kirby Risk and education/training partners Purdue Polytechnic-Lafayette, Ivy Tech Community Colleges (Lafayette and Kokomo).
